Vandalia (EN)

Vandalia is a city in Montgomery County in the U.S. state of Ohio and a suburb of Dayton. Despite its population of about 15000, the James M. Cox Dayton International Airport is located here. The nearby intersection of Interstates 75 and 70 also makes Vandalia an important business center. As early as 1840, Dixie Drive existed here, with old trails running north to south and east to west for settlers on their way west. The great Indian chief Tecumseh of the Shawnee tribe was born here in Ohio. He worked all his life on his dream of a great Indian alliance to force the white settlers to make peace. American aviation pioneers the Wright Brothers were also born in this area.

Vandalia was the first city to sign a sister city agreement with Lichtenfels in 1975. After a tentative first visit by the Lichtenfels Fanfare Marching Band to our Bicentennial Parade in 1976, the relationship developed into a two-year exchange, growing stronger with each visit. In 1993 Prestwick from Scotland was added, so that all three towns became twinned. The student exchange between Lichtenfels and Vandalia is a strong link.

Vandalia is home to the Air Force Museum and Bulter High School and celebrates an annual Oktoberfest.
